Benefits of Coconut Water — Are There Any?

Benefits of Coconut Water — Are There Any?

| On 08, Jun 2012

From being a natural weight loss aid to a cure for acid reflux, diabetes and even cancer, there’s been a lot of talk surrounding the benefits of coconut water for years.  I’ll admit it, I have really wanted to try coconut water for a long time.  The only reason I haven’t is because it’s not available locally (yet) and to have it shipped to me seems too expensive.  I never really gave it much thought as to why I wanted to try coconut water other than it looked like a packaged product that might actually fit into a clean eating lifestyle.  So when the folks at Everyday Health contacted us recently about featuring a video from Joy Bauer (nutritionist on the Today Show) about coconut water, I jumped at the chance to take a peek because having read one of Joy Bauer’s books and also having watched her on the Today Show, I knew I would find out straight up if there really are any benefits from drinking coconut water.

Are there really any benefits to coconut water or is it all just marketing hype?  Is it worth the price?  To find out, check out this video from Everyday Health’s What The Heck Are You Eating With Joy Bauer:

So what do you think?  If you drink coconut water, have you found it has any of the benefits its claimed to have?   If you been wanting to try coconut water and haven’t yet, do you still want to try it?

  1. I come from the Philippines and drinking coconut water is the best. But we do not drink the water from the old coconut rather we drink the water from the young coconut. It is best if it is fresh because it taste good than when you open the young coconut later in the day. I went to visit my family in the Philippines last May and I had photos with my family drinking young coconut early in the morning in the market. I would post the photos in my blog soon. I am here in Michigan of course coconut is not our staple so I had to go to an Oriental market sometimes go cross the border to Canada just to get a young coconut with the water in it (already packaged imported I think from Taiwan) . It is my hubby’s favorite too every time he came to visit Philippines.
