Cherry Almond Smoothie

One good thing about having dealt with a dental issue for almost an entire month that has caused severe jaw and ear pain is the fact that it gave me plenty of time to come up with some new smoothies since I couldn’t really eat solid food for the past couple of weeks without being even more miserable than I already was. Yeah, I know, not a terribly “bright” bright side, but since my entire life has been disrupted for four weeks over a crown being placed on a cracked tooth, in order to make myself feel better about the whole situation, I have to reach far to find a positive note in this painful and disruptive experience. Since I woke up this morning pain free for the first time since May 7th, I *think* I may be on the upward mend (keep your fingers crossed!). I have missed my workouts for two weeks because of the pain and I have been chomping at the bit (no pun intended) to get back to P90X, which I will finally be able to do this week! This Cherry Almond Smoothie will definitely be on my list of snacks to give my body the energy it’s going to need to get back to taking care of business.
A couple of weeks ago, I was going to try to come up with a smoothie using cherries and almonds, but JenniferE sidetracked my thoughts (thankfully!) and we came up with a Banana Split Smoothie? I had not forgotten about the cherry and almonds idea, so here is what I came up with while down and out the past few weeks.
I used frozen dark cherries for this smoothie because I don’t have fresh cherries on hand. I would suggest fresh cherries if you’ve got them. If you use fresh cherries, you might want to add 5 to 6 ice cubes to thicken it a bit.
Enjoy!
Ingredients
- 1 c. unsweetened coconut milk (or milk of your choice)
- 1 medium banana, chunked
- 1 c. frozen dark cherries
- 1/4 c. slivered almonds
- 1/2 tsp. pure almond extract
Instructions
- Starting with milk, place all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth or desired consistency.

I have been on a “mush” diet for a month now after I had gum surgery. I still have another month of smoothies and super soft food to go. This looks delicious! I can’t have almonds so I think I’m going to swap in peanuts. Yum!

You are a genius! I love the cherry/almond combination and thought I’d have to swear off of to eat healthy. I guess I just wasn’t being creative enough, haha. I am pinning this to share with all of my friends
